Biography

Dr. Joao B. de Rezende Neto is Surgeon-Investigator at the Keenan Centre for Biomedical Research and Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital. He is Full Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto, and Trauma/Acute Care General Surgeon at St. Michael’s Hospital. He received his MD degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. After completing residency in General Surgery and Trauma in Brazil, Dr. Rezende undertook a Trauma/Critical Care Fellowship at Boston University in the United States. He has performed over 10,000 surgical procedures during his 33-year career as a surgeon.

Dr. Rezende-Neto has more than 100 publications in medical journals and several boo chapters. He is an inventor of medical devices and currently holds nine patents on surgical devices.
